Day 8: Another Cruise, This Time on the Ord

Saturday morning saw Narelle and Glen join the 7am yoga class while I cooked myself an omelette and sat out on the deck, looking at the lake. When they returned we packed up and left Lake Argyle by 9am.

Back in Kununurra, we dropped off our luggage, sorted out a car booking for Glen and I for Thursday, grabbed an early lunch, and boarded the bus for the Triple J Ord River Cruise.

The cruise was on a bright orange speed boat type thing that took us on a roughly five hour boat cruise from dam to dam, travelling over 110km.

The boat took us into a number of different river environments where we saw a lot of different bird species, including black bittern, little pies and great cormorants, sea eagles, Osprey, darters and more, as well as freshwater crocodiles and even a turtle.

The guide was great, though it would have been better for everyone involved, including him, if he’d had a microphone.

We stopped at one point and got off for morning tea at a little camp, then continued up to the dam wall at Lake Argyle so we really did go a long way.

Then it was mostly non-stop back to Kununurra to catch the sunset.

Great tour, covering a lot of ground and seeing a lot of wildlife.

Back in town we checked in, did washing, got takeaway fish and chips and had another earlyish night.
