Yum cha and Winterlicious

Friday was a mish-mash kind of day. Glen was on call and started late so he was around the house, which is nice but it throws my routine out a bit. I collected some tickets to the Above and Beyond event next week, having found them on Kijiji (a website where people sell all sorts of things, kind of like eBay and Craig’s List).

The cheap tickets out on the Above and Beyond website had sold out but there were some still available on Kijiji. I was apprehensive about buying them from someone off the net, even more so when the guy arranged to meet in the lobby of a hotel looking dodgy as all hell. But they look legitimate and so does his operation.

Glen and I went for lunch at a yum cha restaurant up at St Clair station. It was done up a lot nicer than most of the yum cha places we’ve been, and Glen said that they supposedly make everything fresh on site. It did taste good and fresh, so that was positive. We ordered too much, left stuffed and paid about double what we usually pay at a Rosewood. Still, it was nice to have a midday lunch date.

He went to work shortly after we got back. I worked on an editing job that had come through during the week. I’d finished revisions for my book the day before and sent them off to my editor. Still apprehensive about it and things pop into my head that I could possibly have done differently, but I could do that forever. It’s done, gone, and now need to work on marketing it.

In the evening I went to Osteria die Ganzi, an Italian restaurant down the road from us, with Marcio and Eliano, and Peter and Royden. Toronto restaurants participate in this thing called Winterlicious whereby they advertise a prix fixe menu for about $25 in an effort to encourage people to come to their restaurants in the cold, awful part of the year, and to hopefully get repeat business later.

We met in the lobby at 7:15 and walked down the road, took our seats, ordered wine and our food. I had a cream of mushroom soup (a big serve that was also tasty), a prawn fettuccine (I think it said the pasta was handmade but it didn’t taste like it unfortunately), and a chocolate kahlua cake. Not bad for $25 (plus tax plus tip plus wine).

Really, it was just nice to see the boys and get out of the house in the evening.

We finished up at about 9 and went home. I settled on the couch and continued watching The Killing. I’m on the fourth (and last) season. It’s still holding my attention though I’ll be satisfied when it’s done (I hope). Glen absolutely hates it so I have to watch it when he’s not home. He got back from work at about 10:30 and we went to bed about an hour later.

(I also went to the shops and found these interesting vegetables in Loblaw’s.)

What do you say, eh?
