After getting home at 3am I was so grateful to be able to sleep in until some time after 10. Glen wasn’t so lucky. When I finally got up, what little remained of the morning was spent doing washing, downloading photos and uploading blog posts. Unfortunately my footage of the bioluminescent bay didn’t turn out. Not surprising really.
Julian dropped my backpack off around noon (he’d very kindly taken it in his suitcase as there wasn’t room in mine) and we soon decided to go off to Costco to do some grocery shopping. About 20 minutes later we were in the car and entering a blizzard.
We’d seen the snow falling from our apartment window but now that we were outside it came down hard and fast. The contrast to Puerto Rico could not have been more stark. Road conditions didn’t look very good but Julian didn’t panic. One of the benefits of growing up in Canada.
First stop was to swap cars. Julian had to collect his from his parents’ place and return theirs. Unfortunately Julian’s car wouldn’t start but luckily we could still use his folks’. The detour gave us a chance to see suburban Etobicoke and remark constantly on how much snow had fallen. Honestly, the streets were covered.
Then we went to Costco. That place is dangerous I tell you. We only needed a few things but our trolley was soon groaning under the weight of all this stuff we didn’t know we needed. Chicken, fish, vegetables, tuna, San Pellegrino, laundry detergent…the list goes on, and did, coming to nearly $400. I think we have enough stuff to last us a while.
By the time we finished at Costco is was 3pm and as we hadn’t had lunch we were all starving. Julian took us to the Pickle Barrel where we had salads (and a chocolate milkshake the size of Glen’s head. No fat, I swear.) before going into Sports Life to buy Glen a ski helmet. He finally settled on a green one that was on sale. Now he’s all set for skiing. I was eyeing some new ski mits but I’ll see how I go this weekend with what I’ve got. They weren’t on sale so it’s not like o had to buy them straight away.
Shopping done, we headed home, and I crawled into bed for a little while before we headed to the movies to watch Into the Woods with Julian, Pete and Royden. We were a little late but luckily Pete and Royden had saved us some seats that weren’t too close to the front. It was good to see the boys again and hear about their drive from Halifax to Toronto over Christmas (17 hours nonstop).
Into the Woods was great. Meryl Streep stole the show of course but there were plenty of great one liners and self-referential jokes that had everyone laughing. I hadn’t seen the original so I have nothing to compare it to, which I’m glad about. I was impressed with the way four different fairytales were woven together and most of the songs were good. I thought it dragged a little at the end and a couple of plot points were a bit disappointing (won’t give any spoilers), but overall it was a treat to watch. Go see it.
We then caught the train home after, walking through the slush back to the condo, and said our goodbyes. Glen cooked a late supper of fish and broccoli and we were in bed by 11.

What do you say, eh?
