We slept in on Saturday morning (it was glorious) and then went for breakfast/brunch at The Smith at 10:30. The place was just starting to get busy but we managed to get a table by the window. Food was good. We left full.
Glen went off to get his haircut while Donna and I went back to the apartment to pick up my ice skates and the tickets for the afternoon’s hockey match (Toronto Marlies vs St John’s Icecaps), something that was on Donna’s list of thing to do while in Canada.
We caught the subway down to Union Station and then the streetcar to the Harbourfront. It’s the first time I’ve caught the streetcar from there as that part has been under construction since before we arrived. It was nice to see some progress has been made.
Donna hired some skates and then we got on the ice. It’s been nearly a year since I got on the ice, and those lessons I had didn’t come flooding back. I only knew I wasn’t as good as I probably should. Donna, however, is a natural. She zoomed off around the rink with grace and poise. We went around and around a few times, and then Donna got a lesson from a guy on how to skate backwards, and a skating instructor also gave her some pointers. Such nice people.
We stayed until 1:30, maybe 2, then caught the streetcar up to the Ricoh Colliseum for the hockey match. The game started at 3 and wasn’t that well attended. They play on Sundays too so maybe that’s the more well attended game. Either way, we had good seats.
The Marlies are in the league below the Maple Leafs, and to be honest, I couldn’t tell much difference. The teams we were watching also seemed to be a lot more rough-and-tumble, which, while violence=bad, did add something to the game. Impressive skaters, all of them, and we got excited when someone scored a goal. We both wanted the Icecaps to win. Not sure who won though as we left one minute before the end and heard the commentators outside say the score had evened up, so it was probably a draw (5 all).
We then went home, via the bottle shop to get supplies for the evening, and then went to Julian’s for dinner and drinks. He made a delicious vegetarian pasta for Donna, with supplementary chicken for the rest of us, and yummy veggies. This was then followed with cake. We watched Pitch Perfect after dinner, a movie Donna had never seen, and picked the thing apart from an anti-feminist, homophobic, transphobic point of view. We still enjoyed ourselves.
After that, we got ready to go out and show Donna the two main sites from Queer as Folk: Woody’s and Fly (Babylon). Kevin joined us too. We had a drink or two at Woody’s and then went to Fly. It was quiet for a Saturday night but maybe because it was only midnight when we arrived. Music was good, crowd gradually increased. We danced and then decided to head home at 3am, tired but not exhausted. It was a fun night, and a great way to top off the day.

What do you say, eh?
