Glen called at about 4:30 to ask if we had any plans for tonight and if we should go to the movies. Tuesday is cheap movie night and we hadn’t been to the movies in a while so it sounded like a good idea.
He came home. We ate dinner (the first night in a while where we’ve eaten at home and I haven’t served chicken. We had tuna patties instead, which reminded me of home). After watching an episode of Archer (love that cartoon), we checked out what was on.
Slim pickings unfortunately. We’d missed the showing for Philomena. Captain America 2 looked awful, as did Spiderman 2. We settled on Transcendence and we called a few people to see if they wanted to come with us. Pete and Royden had already seen it, as had Vaughan and Tim. Vaughan asked if we didn’t have anything better to do…
Not a glowing recommendation for the film and my enthusiasm started to wane. However, Glen had called Anna and she was keen to go to the movies so we went anyway and bought the tickets.
I’m glad Vaughan said it wasn’t good because my expectations were rock bottom. I shut off any critical analysis of the film’s plot (as best I could) and just committed to watching. As a result, I didn’t hate the film as much as I thought I would and just got swept up in the semi-thriller nature of it.
Only after did we rip it to shreds. All part of the fun.
We bumped into Richard in the foyer, after he’d seen Grand Budapest Hotel, and chatted mostly about travel. He’s jealous of where we’ve been, though this from the man who actually travels more than we do. Case in point, he’s off to Russia and Australia very soon.
Despite the film, we had a good night out and tearing a film apart is just as much fun (if not more so) than enjoying one completely. We said our farewells to Richard, and then to Anna, and caught the subway home.
Only a few more days until we’re off to the Galapagos Islands. I organised a couple of last minute things today, including our first night’s accommodation. Everything else once we get to the island will be left up to chance so to reduce the stress levels a little we feel better knowing we’ve got somewhere to sleep. After that…who knows what we’ll get up to.

What do you say, eh?
