Today has been a fairly successful day. Glen and I went to the gym this morning (Glen about ten minutes before me). While there, Glen snapped at me because I was looking at him. He then got huffy and didn’t talk to me for the rest of the day. Luckily, Bec came down to the gym after Glen left so I had her to talk to.
Her and Alastair had recently been to New York so we chatted about their trip, including how good the Matilda musical was. There’s a chance I might go to New York at the end of May so I’m tempted to get tickets…if Glen wouldn’t kill me, that is.

It rained most of the day in Toronto. The really cool thing about it was that the clouds were so low they engulfed the top of our apartment block and all I could see outside was white.
I braved the rain, with my rainbow umbrella, and went to MEC to buy supplies for our trip to the Galapagos Islands. MEC sells a whole bunch of stuff for outdoorsy activities. Now that summer is coming, half the downstairs area is filled with bike stuff and kayaks.
I bought some new shoes that I can use in water and on land. I tried on a few pairs before finally settling on some I’m comfortable with. I also bought a new water bottle and some mosquito repellant. I might be a new backpack but I’m not sure yet. I also need to go back to buy a snorkel and mask.
I didn’t buy anything for Glen because invariably whenever I buy something for him, he doesn’t like it. And I mean anything. Even birthday presents. So rather than suffer the agony and frustration of being told, “No, I don’t like them,” I didn’t buy him anything. Instead, if he liked something I bought, then we can just go back and get them.
So, when he came home this evening, what did he say when he saw the shoes?
“I like them. Why didn’t you buy me a pair?”
Same goes with a hat I bought later. Talk about infuriating!

In the afternoon I went to the optometrist to pick up contact lenses and get shown how to put them in. I’ve never had contact lenses before. I thought I should get some for when we go snorkelling so I can at least see underwater. Now that I’ve got them, I’m wondering how quickly I can get laser surgery.
It took a while to get them in, less time to get them out and then back in was pretty quick. It’s definitely…different…from wearing glasses, which I’ve done since I was about 14. I wore them for the rest of the afternoon, until Glen got home, and then frustrated myself by trying to take them out as my eyes were getting sore. Eventually, I just manhandled my eyes and pulled the damn things out.
Getting them in again is going to be interesting.

What do you say, eh?
