The trouble with getting a haircut during a Toronto winter

I’m sure I had a haircut recently but I was definitely in need of one after we returned from Iceland.

The benefits of keeping your hair short at this time of year are twofold:

  1. You can fit your beanie on your head.
  2. Your hair doesn’t look a fright when you take said beanie off.

The downside, however, is that after you’ve got your hair cut, it can be a bit chilly.

Today it’s —10°C with a bit of a wind. I went down the road, got my hair cut quite short and then went outside without my beanie.

I don’t know about you but when I get my hair cut there are little cut hairs left over everywhere. I don’t mind them going down my shirt because I can wash that later, but loose hair inside my beanie? No way!

It wouldn’t be so bad if I could have gone straight home but I had errands to run so I spent quite a bit of time outside. I really came to understand what -10° feels like.

At one stage, I think the cartilage in my ears actually froze. When I covered them with my gloved hands, I heard a crackling sound not unlike ice being crushed.

Despite the chill in the air, the sky is clear and blue, and the sun is shining brightly (if not having much effect on warming our little part of the earth).

What do you say, eh?
