Having got back late last night from the airport (we took a taxi rather than the hour-long public transport rides we would have had to take to get home), I was very grateful for a sleep-in this morning. I vaguely heard Glen get up and prepare for work. I think I might have even said goodbye when he left. I stayed in bed until nearly 9am before scrambling up and going to the gym.
Great workout as I had the place to myself for about half an hour and played one of Above and Beyond‘s Group Therapy podcasts at full blast over the loud speakers. Then a whole bunch of girls arrived.
When I got back to the apartment, I remembered it was our anniversary. Glen had put it in the diary months ago because last year we’d forgotten it. Turns out Glen forgot this year too. Can’t blame him though as he had a pretty busy day at work and the weekend in Prince Edward Island was kind of like an anniversary getaway.
We’re still no closer to determining what to do for our wedding but we’ve decided to not let it stress us out. We have a few options we’re considering, which we’ll explore over the coming weeks. We must get onto it as time is ticking and places are booking out.
I spent most of my day tidying the house and getting back into the swing of regular living. I went to the bank, I went grocery shopping, I posted some postcards. Going outside was a shock. The sky was clear blue today and I could feel the chill coming in from outside but couldn’t quite believe it would be that cold out on the street. The sun was shining, for god’s sake.
Nevertheless I had on a t-shirt, a thin jumper and a jacket, as well as a pair of jeans, and I packed ear muffs and gloves in my bag, just in case. I’d barely got ten metres from the building before I put them on. I looked at the people on the street and saw that many of them were just wearing jackets, so I felt a little self-conscious about adding more warmth. But then I saw people with scarves, a lot of people with scarves, and then a few with beanies and gloves.
Never mind I also saw people in near see-through tights or in shorts.
My jeans are too thin and the wind just goes straight through them, which makes the rest of me cold. I must remedy this before it gets much colder. And that’s another thing, how can it possibly get colder? It doesn’t seem possible. My brain cannot fathom it.
Glen was stuck late at work tonight but that gave me plenty of time to get dinner ready (steamed salmon with bok choy and broccoli) as well as homemade sticky date pudding. Very, very bad, but a favourite of Glen’s. (Plus it was fun to use the Thermomix.)
When he arrived home, after having walked in the dark from College St to the apartment because the train platforms were full, he had a bunch of red roses in his hand. Awwwww. How sweet. And he was very pleased with the sticky date pudding.
Happy ninth anniversary, Glen.

What do you say, eh?
