My first lobster

Glen and I went out for dinner, asking Martha where was good around here. She directed us to Claddagh Oyster House, which was a few streets away. We drove because IT’S SO DAMN COLD! While not exactly a cheap choice, we had a really nice meal.

I had three oysters as a starter, while Glen had seafood chowder. Both were very nice. Then for mains he had a rack of lamb while I had a 1.5 pound lobster. I was surprised when the waitress came out with a bowl and one of those plastic lobster bibs, the ones you see on TV but never expect to ever wear in real life.

And then came out a full lobster, shell and all. What the? How do you eat it? I had to ask for instructions. So you break off the claws, break apart the claws, and then use a nutcracker to crack open the shell and scrape it out with the pick. I made some way into it and the waitress came back to check up on me.

I couldn’t crack anything with the nutcrackers so Glen tried to take over.

He broke the nutcrackers.

Ready to devour. I should have got a photo of the lobster too.

But it was relatively easy to get most of the meat out. And it was delicious.

Oh, and at one point, I cracked a joint and the meat went all over the wall.

What fun!

And to round it off we shared a delicious sticky date pudding.

Glen is having trouble breathing.

We’re now back at the B&B, it’s ridiculously early but I think an early night is in order. We’re watching Family Guy now, with the gas fire going. It’s all warm and cozy and lovely. Tomorrow we’re off to Green Gables. Can’t wait. And looking forward to seeing the island countryside.

    1. Thanks Claire. Did the Thermomix make an appearance at the master class? Well done on the run; the most we walked today was 2 km hehe. Haven’t spoken to you in ages so will have to have a chat soon.
