Today was a day for socialising. While talking to my sister on Skype this morning, Ryland messaged me to see if I wanted to watch Gravity at the movies with him at 1pm. I looked at the list I had next to me on the desk (I find I have to have a list every day or else I just drift aimlessly through it until it gets dark and then bemoan the fact I haven’t ‘achieved’ anything) and then thought, “Why the hell not?” I’d already been to the gym, I’d had breakfast. Movies it was.
Today felt even colder than yesterday and was oh so glad for my fluffy jacket. I wish I had one that was longer because my legs are starting to feel the bite of the wind through my jeans. Soon it will be time to abandon fluffy jacket and dress in a long coat. There are worse things in the world.
We saw Gravity in IMAX 3D, probably the best way to see that movie, given the expansiveness of space that it tries to show and the beautiful, sublime images of the Earth from up high. I spent the whole movie squirming (must have annoyed Ryland something chronic); lots of suspense, very well done.
Some things were a bit hard to believe but you don’t really notice them until you leave. Oh, and a friend had seen it a few weeks ago and exclaimed how Sandra Bullock’s hair stays flat against her head when she’s meant to be in zero gravity. It was all I could focus on at one point, which was a bit of a shame because the shot itself was quite beautiful. I left the cinema feeling a little exhausted.
We then went for a quick, late lunch at BQM. Ryland had a burger, while I had a chicken salad. When the waitress asked how the food was, Ryland exclaimed with near ecstasy how good it tasted. That brought a smile to her face and she took that positivity and brightened. Great waitress.
We caught a tram up Spadina then parted ways, hopefully to meet again in Banff early next year (oh god, already thinking about next year).
This evening Glen and I went out for dinner with a bunch of the radiology fellows. Nine of us in total and we went for Korean BBQ on Queen St. Stuffed our faces, talked about a whole variety of things including our time at Alinea (I think we’ve convinced a few more people to check it out). Anna and I talked about skiing trips and what days she’s going when the season starts. Looks like we might be going skiing a lot. What else is there to do in winter, right?
So glad to have spent a good part of the day in company with a group of fun and interesting people.

What do you say, eh?
