We sold the Mazda 121 today. It had served us well. We were using it less and less and, with someone eager to buy it and more work required to keep it running, we took the opportunity to unburden ourselves of one more material possession.

It’s been a week of unburdening, or movements towards unburdening. I went through my bookshelves and picked out books I’ll never read again. I’m sure there are plenty more that I could get rid of but now it’s time for baby-steps. They’re now stacked in a pile on the floor in front of the bookshelf. Eventually they will go. Never mind there’s a box of books downstairs that has been there for three years waiting to go to Save the Children.
Glen also sorted through a shelf and got rid of four books. We also unloaded a few knickknacks onto Glen’s mum. Then Glen suggested getting rid of all of our DVDs now. I’m sure I went into high-pitched mode when he said it. We still have more than five months to go! We don’t need to get rid of everything right now.
We have come to the conclusion that we will have a few garage sales down the track to get rid of furniture, pot plants and bits and pieces we don’t want to store. Keep your eyes open for the notice.
In other preparation news, we’re sorting out work permits now. Mine’s nearly all sorted. Just waiting on a police check to come through. Glen will get on with his this weekend.
It’s getting real now.

What do you say, eh?
